Recently, our Student Coordinator, Shreyas Karade, had an insightful conversation with PSKA Alumnus, Mr. Swarnendu. Swarnendu, an engineer by qualification, successfully transitioned into the financial research sector. Despite his passion for the field and holding a Deputy Manager position, he found himself at a career crossroads, seeking a clear path for growth.This blog captures the essence of their conversation, highlighting common challenges faced by finance professionals and the clear solutions that strategic certification can offer.

The conversation began with Swarnendu outlining a familiar problem. "As the company grew, I also started liking this field," he shared. "But now, I don't have an idea of where the opportunities are... If I leave this company and switch, I don't even have an idea of what to do, where I can grow, or how I can improve."

Swarnendu's situation is one many professionals face: you have the experience and the passion, but lack the formal guidance and certification to unlock the next level of opportunities. He wanted to get registered and build a more concrete career path but admitted, "There is no guidance."

The Path Forward: Demystifying the NISM Investment Advisor (IA) Certification

Shreyas addressed Swarnendu's uncertainty by breaking down the NISM Investment Advisor (IA) certification, a powerful qualification for any serious finance professional.

"An Investment Advisor certification is a combination of 3-4 different NISM series," Shreyas explained. "It includes elements from the Research Analyst (RA) module, the Securities Market Foundation, and even aspects of Mutual Fund Distribution (MFD)."

This comprehensive curriculum is what makes IA certification so valuable, opening doors to diverse and senior roles such as:

• Portfolio Management Services (PMS)
• Corporate Research Analyst (RA)
• Specialized Advisory Services
• Independent Financial Practice

A Note on the Exam: The IA exam is rigorous. The fee is approximately ₹3000 per attempt for each of the two series (XA and XB), totaling ₹6000. Failing an attempt means repaying the fee, making it crucial to prepare effectively from the start.

The PSKA Edge: Clearing a Tough Exam in Just 10 Days

This is where Swarnendu's story becomes a powerful testament. At his company, a research team of 20 members was attempting the NISM exam, but almost no one could pass.

"I and two other people passed on the first attempt," Swarnendu proudly stated. "I got 70 marks... The concept was completely clear after watching the [PSKA] videos."

How did he do it? Swarnendu credits two key aspects of PSKA's training:

1. Conceptual Clarity: The video lectures helped him build a strong conceptual foundation, even with his existing work experience.
2. Robust Mock Tests: "Your mock test series is very strong," he emphasized.

His timeline was even more impressive. "I took a month's pass... and I cleared it in 10 days." This demonstrates that with focused, high-quality preparation, even the most challenging exams are surmountable in a short time.

Beyond the Exam: Navigating SEBI Registration

Passing the exam is the first step. The next is getting registered with SEBI to practice legally. Here, Swarnendu hit another roadblock. "The company itself is SEBI-registered," he explained. "If I become registered, I will become its competitor. That's why they don't guide me."

This is a critical gap that PSKA is now bridging. Shreyas introduced our new initiative: a direct support system for SEBI compliance.

"We are going to bring these services ourselves," Shreyas announced. PSKA has partnered with CS Anjali Ma'am, a Company Secretary and CA specializing in SEBI compliance.
