Build A Powerful Finance Resume: Let’s Optimise LinkedIn Too

Fri Jun 7, 2024

There’re many formats online with different inputs but they’re for very short term (just to help you get the job)

Here we’ll cover in which areas does your professional resume is reflected and on which basis the HR manager will judge you:

A) LinkedIn Profile: Yes, LinkedIn is your professional network where everything you post on it , is considered.

Just a quick hack: If you click on ‘More’ button & click on save to PDF, you’ll have the overall candidate’s profile converted into a structure resume. Here’s the example:
(All the examples covered here are from Prof. Sheetal Kunder Academy alumni)
First, consider your LinkedIn profile as your official resume and not the one you were sharing traditionally in an envelope a few years back. Just see the below video where our Student Advisor (Mr. Shreyas Karade) have given a quick demo on complete LInkedIn profile optimisation for finance professionals:

Here we’ve published a detailed article on how finance professionals can build their personal brand on LinkedIn

While applying to jobs via ‘Easy Apply’ (example given 👇) the problem here is..your entire LinkedIn profile gets shared to HR Manager and he/she might struggle to find the relevant skills as per the available job description.

That’s when a custom made resume is useful to show only what is needed.

Here’re the important points your professional resume in the finance industry should contain:

a) Precise finance career objective: Expand your signature and important skills that the JD would have a direct match. Include your significant initiatives (e.g. 3 times winner at BSE & NSE Trading Analysis competition or developed a trading simulation platform for commodities) that’ll set you apart. Though you’ll repeat this in the achievements & experience section, you need to highlight in the top career objective section as well.

B) Tools Knowledge: Show in detail of how much proficiency you’ve in different tools (Tally, SAP, Bloomberg, Tradar, Reuters, MDM, etc.) and which projects executed & thier impact on the co./clients.

c) Financial Certifications: Never include any short form here. Specify all the training modules, duration, marks and in which industries you applied these certifications.

d) Publications: Have you featured in any fintech magazine? Are you a regular financial writer or analyst reporter? Or have published your own series of book/owning a finance newsletter? Just include all your popular articles & docs in a Google drive and paste it’s link on your resume
