Why There’s Less Number of Women As Asset Managers In Finance Industry?

Gender Bias and Stereotypes: The financial industry, especially asset management, has a historical reputation for being male-dominated. Unconscious bias can lead to fewer opportunities for women in recruitment, promotion, and leadership roles.

Pipeline Issue: Fewer women might be entering relevant fields like finance or mathematics at the university level, leading to a smaller pool of qualified female candidates for asset management positions.

Work-Life Balance Challenges: The asset management industry can be demanding, with long hours and a high-pressure environment. This can be challenging for women who faces greater societal expectations for childcare or eldercare responsibilities. In India, the housewives trend is declining and womenpreneurship is getting traction after SharkTankIndia.

Lack of Role Models and Mentorship: The dearth of senior women in asset management can make it difficult for younger women to find role models and mentors who can guide their careers and support them.
Company Culture: Few asset management firms might have a culture that is not particularly welcoming or inclusive towards women. This can make it difficult for women to thrive and advance further.
