NISM PGDM (Securities Markets): Is It Perfect For Engineers?

Tue Jul 2, 2024

LLM (Master of Laws) in integration with NMU (National Law University)

Honest review of NISM PGDM course which was a 1 year program , it is the only PGDM program NISM had offered.

There’s another flagship program that we reviewed in our last blog that had residential compulsory where families can be easily accommodated

Thank you Shardul Rakshashbuwankar for sharing your views about PGDM with us 🙏🏻

In the batch of Shardul (here’s his LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shardul-rakshasbhuwankar/  - there are 35% were engineers, few of them were arts & rest commerce students.)

People take this program majorly to learn trading but actually, it contains all the corporate laws, nuances of the market (equity, commodity, forex)

The specialisation starts from day 1. This PGDM Securities in NISM isn’t like other colleges where the specialization starts from future semesters. In NISM there’s not an option to choose a set of subjects. Here the students have to go through all the subjects that are part of the curriculum.

All the subjects starts from basic like A/c reading, PnL accounting, math, different B/S statements, etc.

The faculty here are quite good with 15 to 25 years of experience (who have been in MCX, SEBI’s General Manager, managing fund for 25 years for mutual fund subjects, etc.). More than books, students absorb maximum from the faculty’s guidance

NISM had made 6 certifications (research analyst, mutual fund distributor, investment advisor, securities operations & risk management, etc.) compulsory during the PGDM (the certifications curriculum were included in the program itself)

For admission in the PGDM, NISM judges students from previous academics, entrance test, and rest 50% lies in face-to-face interviews testing market knowledge (here the student needs to have a basic idea of market terms & how it work)

Though NISM is funded by SEBI & govt., there’s no fee waiver or concession for PGDM. NISM reduces the intake of students if they decide to mentor limited students.

PGDM - Securities Markets is for those who are eager to work in the market and want to excel fast.

In the next blog, we’ll cover the latest PGDM - Data Science In Financial Markets, stay tuned!
