This article will give you a brief about how NISM had designed their PGDM (Securities Market speculation). This’ll get you ideas on how NISM design their curriculum , faculty appointment, placements, etc.
NISM has close PGDM Program that was a flagship program - total fee of 8 lakh includes accommodation & food at Patalganga (Mumbai). NISM had closed this for some other reason (looking to niche down PG programs)
A) Which certifications NISM had made mandatory for PG students?
PG NISM students have to pursue research analyst, equity derivative and mutual fund distributor.
b) How’s the placement coordination?
NISM has prominent placement partners (international + domestic financial institutions) with good assistance in any finance deparment. Shivam Singh we had discussion with had done internship at Finology Ventures Ltd and now at BSE - IICL.
c) Faculty’s qualifications & experience?
Mostly there’re visiting faculties from Tier 1, IIMs and a few permanent who has explored AIF, Mutual Funds, etc. who has 10-15 years of experience
d) Curriculum and subjects?
1st year of PGDM contains general MBA includes marketing, statistics, maths. From 3rd semester, specialisation in securities market starts.
NISM has collaborated with CFA institute (CFA curriculum overlap the PGDM course contents). Students get paid internship from CFA Institute as well
e) Any final message to MBA Aspirants?
PGDM isn’t recommended to students who want to pursue General MBA as these students are still exploring what to specialise further. NISM PGDM or newly launched PG programs provides very focused finance learning in securities market, investment banking, corporate law, etc. So only finance interested students should choose the specialised NISM PG programs.
It’s ok for pure science students to change the field further & leave what doesn’t interest you. Shivam Singh who has done his chemistry from Banaras and then opted for NISM PGDM as finance interest him the most.
There’re many B-Tech, Engineering and non commerce students (from PSKA) who’ve cleared NISM certifications in 1st attempt (real strength of them is strong logical thinking).
